WHO WE ARE

When founded in 1956 the NIAGARA LUTHERAN HOME was the first freestanding nursing facility in Western New York. Today the NIAGARA LUTHERAN HEALTH SYSTEM is a not-for-profit, Christian-based organization relying on reimbursements, private pay and community generosity to provide high quality care and services to our aging population. We now have two locations, one in Buffalo and the other in Lancaster, New York.

Being a not-for-profit organization, the Health System and its affiliates are governed and directed by boards of directors made up of people from the community who also believe in our mission.

"I sing the praises of the care and environment at Niagara Lutheran every chance I get. But what I am most impressed with is the culture of mutual respect that is so evident. Everyday you work with residents who can be difficult, unresponsive, or severely depressed. And yet the atmosphere is upbeat, positive, and full of kindness."- from letter to staff
Niagara Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, located in Buffalo, New York, provides long and short-term skilled nursing care, Alzheimer's and dementia care, respite care, and rehabilitation services to individuals of all faiths and walks of life. Over the years, it has earned a reputation for providing high quality care in a safe, friendly, homelike atmosphere.

The GreenFields Continuing Care Community, located on 52 beautiful acres in Lancaster, New York, provides priority access to various levels of care for its residents on a single campus. In 1998 GreenField Health and Rehabilitation Center opened in Lancaster as the first phase of a long-held dream of the Lutheran community in Western New York to provide a continuum of care campus where people would have priority access to the various levels of care they might need in a familiar setting.

GreenField Manor consists of 91 one and two-bedroom residential apartment homes for active, independent seniors.

GreenField Court offers 49 studio, one and two-bedroom assisted living apartments for people who need some assistance with activities of daily living. It is operated by The Lutheran Church Home of Buffalo (www.TLCH.org).

GreenField Manor and Court do not require an entrance fee, and the monthly service fee includes a wide variety of amenities and services.

GreenField Health and Rehabilitation Center provides long and short-term skilled nursing care, Alzheimer's and dementia care, respite care, and Inpatient and Outpatient rehabilitation services including aquatic therapy.

The philosophy that built Niagara Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center's reputation for quality care has carried over to The GreenFields, and The GreenFields is earning its own reputation as a provider of high quality, caring, Christian services. Our residents have priority access to the various levels of care they may need.

The Niagara Lutheran Health Foundation was formed to supplement the revenues of this not-for-profit organization. It has also been instrumental in raising money for the construction of The GreenFields Continuing Care Community through its Capital Campaign. An enthusiastic Board of Trustees supervises and assists Foundation staff.

Niagara Lutheran Health System has evolved from a 60-bed nursing facility to its current status as a health system providing high quality retirement living options as well as various levels of health care services to people of all faiths and walks of life in a caring, Christian atmosphere.
