Alzheimer's and dementia residents receive individualized care including emotional and spiritual support in a homelike, yet secure, environment. Within this environment they are encouraged to participate in daily activities and other activities specifically designed for their special needs, such as craft projects and music therapy. Appropriate medical supervision, opportunities for fellowship, and spiritual support are provided.

Residents are encouraged to do as much as they can for themselves, and focus is placed on providing the services they need while at the same time allowing them to maintain their dignity and live life to their fullest potential.

Our nursing staff is constantly pursuing ideas to help our dementia residents. Our most recent innovation is named the "quiet room," and it has produced extremely positive results.

This is a special room with soft lighting and music filled with various equipment from lava lamps to ever-changing-color optical fibers. Residents spend about 15 minutes in this room with an aide present and are able to observe and use the various stimuli. Preliminary observations show that agitated residents are calmed in this environment, and conversely, the environment has helped certain unresponsive residents become responsive.
